Week 11 Picks with Commentary
Maryland @ Virginia Tech (-3) – Maryland has been one of the most sporadic teams in recent memory. They lost to Middle Tennessee State, win three straight, then get shut out by Virginia. I personally like to go with the more stable team, therefore I will go with Beamer and the Hokies in a close game, but they will cover. Virginia Tech (-3)
Baylor @ Texas (-27.5) – There is no doubt in my mind that Texas will come out quite upset. They will push Baylor around and prove that they are the best one loss team in the nation. With the game being in Austin, I have to take the Longhorns (-27.5) in this one.
Georgia Tech @ UNC (-4) – We all know that I love Paul Johnson, but I love him even more as an underdog. I know UNC has had a great year, but Georgia Tech will be playing for first place in the ACC Coastal division and I see a very impressive game by the Yellow Jackets. Trickery is expected! Take Georgia Tech (+4)
Alabama (-3.5) @ LSU – I often do not like taking a road favorite in rivalry games, but I think the LSU defense is just that bad and the Alabama coaching staff is just that good. I think it will be close early, but Alabama will pull away late and they run right through the LSU defense similar to Georgia and Florida. Take Alabama (-3.5)
Clemson @ Florida State (-5.5) – This is still the same team that Tammy Bowden recruited so I seeing them getting up for this game big time. For some reason, you have to tell Clemson they cannot win for them to play well. I see the same thing happening this weekend as Clemson (+5.5) covers.
Florida (-24) @ Vanderbilt – This seems like a classic let down game. Everyone is telling Florida that their offense is unstoppable and this is the same Vanderbilt team that was in the Top 15 three weeks ago. Being a 24 point underdog at home will be great motivation as I will take Vanderbilt.
Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech (-3) – The classic let down game has taken shape. Texas Tech jumped all the way up to #2 in the BCS and they are coming off the most emotional game in their history. Good luck on trying to get this team up for the Oklahoma State game Mike Leach. Take Oklahoma State (+3)
Virginia @ Wake Forest (-3.5) – Virginia is coming off a tough loss and going into BB&T Field, isn’t that weird to say?!? Wake has not been impressive at all this year and I think that trend continues. Get ready for a boring, slow paced, 16-10 victory for the Wahoos. On a high note, I finally have ESPNU HD so I get to see this one in HD! Take Virginia (+3.5)
North Carolina State @ Duke (-3.5) – Can any Wolfpack fans believe we are an underdog versus Duke? Oh wait, I made this claim at the beginning of the year and was laughed at; who is laughing now? The Wolfpack always seems to play much better as an underdog, but we have NEVER played well in Wallace Wade. This is going to be the coming apart at the seems for Tom O’Brien as the Blue Devils convincingly beat the Wolfpack. Take Duke (-3.5)
California @ USC (-20.5) – Pete Carroll knows that he needs to be impressive every game for the rest of the season and the young Trojan offense plays much better at home. I hope that Cal does not come out in hideous uniforms but it won’t matter as USC throttles them. Take USC (-20.5)
Coming into Week 11; the standings are as follows:
Jesse: 61-37-2 (62.2%)
Nick: 52-45-2 (53.6%)
Kreg: 46-42-2 (52.2%)
Kreg with a HUGE week last week at 8-2!
